TROY – Troy University’s Choral Department will perform “The Music of Randall Thompson” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29 in the Claudia Crosby Theater.
Singers include members of the TROY University Concert Chorale, TROY University Collegiate Singers, The Iota Nu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and members of the TROY University choral alumni family, said Dr. Diane Orlofsky, professor of music and one of the event’s organizers.
This concert features music of Randall Thompson (1899-1984) in honor of the 25th anniversary of his death. Randall Thompson, one of the greatest American choral composers, masterfully set text, whether it was Scriptural references or Robert Frost poetry.
Music on this concert include selections from “The Peaceable Kingdom,”
“The Testament of Freedom” and “Frostiana.” The Concert Chorale and Collegiate Singers will perform under the direction of Dr. Orlofsky. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia will be directed by Scott Sexton and “The Last Words of David” and “Alleluia” will be guest conducted by Dr. Larry Blocher, director of the John M. Long School of Music, and Dr. William R. Denison, director emeritus of the TROY University Collegiate Singers.
Soloists include students Clay Paramore, Bryant Stokes, Jessica Szerszynski and Laura Aaron. Accompanists include Ms. Lyra Crapps, Laura Aaron, Haley Jackson, Chris Petre (flute), Dr. Tim Phillips (clarinet), Scott Sexton, and Laura Waters.
