DOTHAN—Troy University will present “Inspiration from the Hard Things,” a poetry reading by local author Tonya Baxter, on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Dothan Campus.

Baxter, a Newville, Ala., native, will present her poems and discuss the inspiration she draws from the lives of people she encounters.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. inside Sony Hall in the Library/Technology Building. Admission is free and open to the public.

Baxter works as a guard in the Houston County Jail and bases much of her work on the lives of the inmates she encounters. She has written poems for the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, Alfred Saliba Family Services Center and Wiregrass Hospice, as well as for grieving families in memory of their loved ones.
