TROY – Troy University Director of Bands Ralph Ford was elected to the American Bandmasters Association, making him the state’s only active bandmaster elected to the association.

The election came during the association’s annual meeting in College Station, Texas, and requires the person elected to be nominated one year in advance. A one-hour concert band performance must also be submitted for approval by past presidents of ABA. The nominee must receive 75 percent of the votes by past presidents prior to being submitted to the general membership for approval.

“It is my hope that I may live up to the exceptional standards of the finest band conductor’s organization in the world,” Ford said.

In addition to being a nationally known conductor, Ford is a professional composer and arranger with more than 180 publications for orchestra, band and other ensembles receiving multiple performances world wide.

Along with his director of bands duties at TROY, Ford is a professor of music in the John M. Long School of Music.
