Dr. James F. Vickrey to address TROY Montgomery Campus graduates

MONTGOMERY—Dr. James F. Vickrey, a Troy University professor and former president of the University of Montevallo, will address graduates at TROY’s Montgomery Campus during the fall commencement ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

TROY Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., will confer 170 graduate and undergraduate degrees during the ceremony which starts at 7 p.m. inside the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Dr. Vickrey has been a professor of speech communication at TROY since 1991. Before coming to TROY, he served as a professor and president of the University of Montevallo from 1980 to 1987.

While at Montevallo, Dr. Vickrey presided over the university’s emergence as the “state’s liberal arts college” and won a number of national awards for his leadership. He also regularly taught a course on the “Great American Films.”

Dr. Vickrey is a graduate of Auburn University. He earned his doctorate in rhetoric and public address from Florida State University in 1972. In 1990, he was awarded a law degree from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.
