TROY’s Wiregrass Math and Science Consortium to announce NASA grant

Thursday, December 3, 10 a.m.: The Wiregrass Math and Science Consortium at Troy University’s Dothan Campus has been awarded a grant from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center to provide aerospace and technology education to students in the Dothan City Schools System.

The grant will be announced formally during a press conference at the Dothan Campus on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. inside Sony Hall located in the Library/Technology Building. Officials set to appear at the press conference will be:

  • Dr. Lance Tatum, Dean of the TROY College of Education
  • Dr. Wil Robertson, Marshall Space Flight Center
  • Dr. Sam Nichols, Dothan City Schools Superintendent
  • Sandra Armstrong, Director of the Wiregrass Math and Science Consortium

NASA astronaut Doug Wheelock is also tentatively set to speak during the press conference. Wheelock will share remarks via live teleconference from the Gagarin Training Center in Star City, Russia.

Following the press conference, a ceremony will be held to plant an apple tree grown from seeds flown aboard a NASA space shuttle.
