MONTGOMERY—W. Russell Tyner, vice president of UAB Health System and president/CEO of Baptist Health, will deliver the keynote address during spring commencement at the Troy University Montgomery Campus on Monday, May 17.
Commencement will be held at 7 p.m. inside the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. More than 190 graduate and undergraduate degrees will be conferred during the ceremony.
Tyner joined Baptist Health as president and CEO in 2004 and remained in that capacity after an affiliation was begun with UAB Health System. He has 25 years of senior executive healthcare experience concentrated in hospital operations, human resources, and system integration.
Before joining Baptist Health, Tyner served 14 years as associate administrator and chief operating officer for Bessemer Carraway Medical Center (now known as UAB Medical West). From 2002 until 2004, when Tyner joined UAB Health System, he served as Senior Vice President and chief operating officer of UAB Medical West. He has fulfilled many community leadership roles including Board chairmanship for local Chambers of Commerce, multiple school board appointments, and economic/community development authorities.
Tyner also serves as chairman of the TROY Montgomery Campus Advisory Council.
Tyner received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1982 from the University of Alabama and has undertaken advanced healthcare education at the University of Michigan.
