TROY’s ‘Sounds of the Season’ holiday concert coming to Montgomery

MONTGOMERY—Troy University will bring its annual “Sounds of the Season” holiday concert to the capital city for the first time in December with a performance at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts.

“Sounds of the Seasons: Illuminations of Light and Remembrance” will be performed on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. The holiday extravaganza will feature music, dance and theater performed by more than 300 students and 20 faculty members from TROY’s John M. Long School of Music and the Department of Theater and Dance.

The show will feature a mix of contemporary and traditional holiday favorites, including James Weldon Johnson’s “The Creation” told in music, dance and theater; solos from music faculty members Dr. Meg Jackson and Dr. Michael Hix; and a special segment entitled “I’ll be Home for Christmas” honoring members of the armed services.

TROY performing groups whose talents will be featured in the show include: the Collegiate Singers, Concert Choir, Symphony Band, Gospel Choir, Theater Ensemble, Musical Theatre Ensemble, sJazz Ensemble and Repertory Dance Ensemble.

The “Sounds of the Season” concert is an annual TROY tradition being brought to Montgomery for the first time for a special fundraising performance to raise support for the Davis Theatre and other University arts programs. Single tickets for the show are $25 for the main floor and $15 for the balcony. Tickets are on sale now.

In addition to the “Sounds of the Season” performance, the Davis Theatre is also raising support this season through the sale of limited-edition prints of a painting of the Theatre made by Alabama artist Larry Strickland. The unframed, 22” x 28” prints are being sold for $123 in recognition of the University’s 123 years.
