TROY – Troy University Public Radio's “Community Focus" has been named the 2013 Best Talk Show Medium Market by the Alabama Broadcaster's Association.
The show, led by 16-year veteran host Carolyn Hutcheson, airs Monday through Friday at 12:10 p.m., following the noon news on the University's three stations WTSU, 89.9 F.M., serving Montgomery and Troy; WRWA, 88.7 F.M., serving Dothan; and WTJB, 91.7 F.M., serving Columbus, Ga. and Phenix City.
“The award is a reflection of the Troy University Public Radio staff's commitment, and that of the University, to serve the ‘public' in public radio throughout our Alabama, Georgia and Florida coverage area," Hutcheson said. “It's a joy and a privilege to connect our communities by bringing their voices to the airwaves."
The program is produced, and frequently guest hosted, by Kyle Gassiott, the network's operations manager.
Combined, the stations cover more than a million listeners in the tri-state area and are operated almost entirely through donor support. Much of that support is generated in pledge drives twice a year. The stations' next pledge drive kicks off on Oct. 12.
The Troy University Public Radio network provides world, national and regional news, arts and cultural programming, and is affiliated with National Public Radio, Public Radio International, the Associated Press and the Alabama Broadcasters Association. In addition, the network broadcasts in hybrid digital. Its “HD" service is provided free to listeners and requires an HD receiver. In addition to the regular broadcast, the network broadcasts 24-hour classical music on one HD channel and BBC World News on another.
