TROY - Officials from Troy University, the Johnson Center for the Arts, the Pike Chamber of Commerce and the City of Troy will hold a press conference at 9 a.m., Wednesday, April 9 to announce the kickoff of the Wiregrass Blues Fest activities. The press conference will take place in the downstairs gallery of the Johnson Center for the Arts.
A free musical presentation and panel discussion will be held at 7 p.m., April 30 at the Studio, located at 300 E. Walnut St. in downtown Troy to kick off the three-day festival. After the opening night event at the Studio, events will shift to Dothan with events scheduled for the Wiregrass Museum of Art on Friday and Saturday. Troy University also will present a "Blues in Schools" performance for students at Abbeville High School on Friday, May 1.
Wednesday's press conference will include: Jeneve Brooks, organizer and assistant professor of sociology at Troy University; musician Lenny Trawick; Vicki Pritchett, executive director of the Johnson Center for the Arts; Kathleen Sauer, executive director of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce; and Troy Mayor Jason Reeves.
