Area Service Opportunities for Individuals and Groups

Academic service-learning connects the academic arm of the university to the needs of the community. Coordinated through the Office of Student Learning Initiatives, academic service-learning involves service experiences for individuals and groups that tie directly to an academic course that includes content relevant to the service performed. Here are some of our local service opportunities:

Patient Visitor- visits the patients, Care Giver Relief- Sits with patient while the care giver runs errands, Facility Volunteer- visits patients from one facility, Call patients/family to touch base, Sends Bingo Buddies- Host a bingo game, Yard Angels- Volunteer takes lawn mover to patients house and do light yard work, Event Host- Facilitate or co-facilitate at a health fair cards to patients, draw with a patient, play music, and read to patients.

Mission:
Provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Become trained to assist with client assistance casework with natural or manmade disasters.

Service Opportunities:
We need help answering phones, and train additional volunteers. (8-2 daily and nights as needed) Plan and assist with fundraising, make comfort kits Become shelter volunteers; become service center volunteers (days and nights as needed during disasters) Help raise funds for local Red Cross in order that individuals receive assistance for immediate needs. Food, blanket, pillow, and sheet drives.
