The language of the universe and the only truly common global language, mathematics is the cornerstone of any science. We use math every day to build bridges, solve crimes, identify new drugs and search the cosmos for intelligent life. The TROY mathematics program exposes students to a wide variety of mathematical specialties, preparing them for continued study or placement in the workplace in areas such as programming, statistical management, and more.

For students seeking careers in secondary mathematics education, the Mathematics Major is coupled with a major in education in a curriculum that leads to certification for teaching. Troy University’s teacher education programs are accredited by NCATE.
These programs in mathematics emphasize attention to each student and feature small classes, quality instruction by a well-qualified faculty with diverse mathematical backgrounds, effective advising, a departmental Math Club, weekly seminars, and free tutoring. In addition, the Department has a computer lab equipped with the latest mathematics software including the computer algebra system Maple along with MATLAB and Geometer’s Sketchpad.
