Conference of the Southeast Chinese Language Association

General Information

The Southeast Chinese Language Association will host its 6th Annual Conference at TROY University—Confucius Institute, Montgomery, AL from Oct. 7-8, 2016.

The Annual Conference gathers the field’s experts to offer you relevant knowledge, wisdom, and expertise. Mix and mingle with your colleagues, teachers, professors, policy makers and role models of the Southeast Chinese Language Association and communities to swap experiences, learn best practices, fuel partnerships, and share teaching, researching and administration. Be inspired to create a rich, vibrant future for Chinese language teaching and learning.

The 2016 Annual Conference will showcase the beauty of Montgomery’s local history venues. TROY University Montgomery has also partnered with an area hotel to provide special rate accommodations for the Conference attendees.

Call for Papers & Proposals

The 6th Annual Conference of the Southeast Chinese Language Association (SECLA) planning committee welcomes (1) videos for teaching demonstrations and (2) proposals for interactive presentations. The conference invites discussions on American context-based Chinese language and culture education.

Track A:

This track allows presenters opportunities to share experiences and ideas from their practices. Each presentation will be 30 minutes, consisting of a teaching video demonstration (5-10 minutes), a presentation (10-15 minutes) and a group discussion (10 minutes) based on the videos.

Video Submission Guidelines:

  • Videos must be 5-10 minutes in length.
  • Videos must be stored in the following video file formats: MPG, MOV, or WMV.
  • For efficient and quality purposes, we prefer upload videos onto One Drive, Google Drive or You Tube and then share the link of the video to us via this E-mail address:
  • The Submission Deadline is Monday, September 5, 2016, at 11:59pm.
  • Acceptance notification will be made no later than Friday, September 16, 2016.

Track B:

This track is featured by focusing on theory and empirical research. Each presentation will be 30 minutes, including a 20 minutes speech and 10 minutes to answer the questions from the audiences.

Proposal Submission Guidelines:

  • Proposal files should have a cover page with the title of the presentation, 2-3 keywords to describe your research area, author's name, affiliation, and contact information (including email).
  • Proposals are limited to one page and should be anonymous without any identifiable author information. 
  • Proposals must be formatted with 0.75 inch margins all around; 11-pt font size or larger for narrative text; 10-pt font size or larger for table and figure legends; and using the Times New Roman or Times font styles.
  • Proposals must be submitted as PDF files to the conference email address Only electronic submissions are accepted. Submissions not meeting page requirements will be rejected. Use the following naming convention for the proposal file name: authorlastname_firstname_secla2016.pdf (ex. Smith_John_secla2016.pdf)
  • The Submission Deadline is Monday, September 5, 2016, at 11:59pm.
  • Acceptance notification will be made no later than Friday, September 16, 2016.

  • Download APP Uber to your cell phone, then book a ride from Montgomery Regional Airport (Address: 4445 Selma Hwy, Montgomery AL 36108) to Troy University Montgomery Campus (Address: 252 Montgomery Street, Montgomery AL 36104), which takes you 10-15 minutes to the destination at the price of $17-22.
  • City bus will depart from Montgomery Regional Airport at five to each clock before 9pm from Monday through Friday (Saturday: 7:30am to 6:30 pm) , e.g., five to seven o’clock, five to eight o’clock, etc. For detailed bus routes and scheduling information, please call at 334-262-7356 or you may click on to plan your trip. Route No.6 can take you from the airport to Troy University Montgomery Campus at the price of $2.
