How does distance learning work? Our programs are designed to serve any student, anywhere in the world, who has access to the Internet. All our online courses are delivered through the Blackboard Learning System. Blackboard helps us and our instructors to better simulate the traditional classroom experience with features such as Virtual Chat, Discussion Boards, and other presentation and organizational forums. Students in our online programs never have to attend a physical classroom, although in many courses one exam must be taken with a pre-approved proctor. Students can work on course work any day and hour of the week they choose. However, course work and requirements will be guided by the course syllabus for due dates. All work must be completed within the traditional term dates unless other arrangements are made with an instructor. Some courses may require online meetings at specific dates and times unless other arrangements are made in advance with the instructor. Can I earn a complete degree online? Yes! All the courses for each of our degree programs will be offered (at minimum) over each academic year. (Barring unforeseen scheduling conflicts) Will my diploma read any different than any other TROY diploma? No. How computer literate do I have to be and what are the technological requirements? Students should have, at the very minimum, a strong working knowledge of the Internet and an e-mail client such as Microsoft Outlook. You must have your own Internet provider (ISP) and maintain your own Internet account. Your computer should be efficient enough to maintain an online connection. Most instructors use Microsoft Office for document production. However, if you do not have this software package, your computer should be capable of downloading the Office readers and you should be running some word processing program. For Computer Science majors: You must check with the appropriate Computer Science instructors prior to registration regarding specific software requirements for these courses. How many terms are there in a year? There are five academic terms each year. Each term is nine weeks in duration. What is the tuition? Tuition for undergraduate courses is $185 per credit hour. Tuition for graduate courses is $315 per credit hour EXCEPT for MBA courses, which is $440 per credit hour. The tuition rate is subject to change periodically. Do I have to pay out-of-state tuition rate if I don't live in the state of Alabama ? No. Tuition is a flat rate no matter where you live. How do I know what programs you offer and what classes are available each term? We offer a number of degree programs online. Undergraduate degree programs Graduate degree programs In most cases, every course for every degree program is offered every term. However, some courses may have to be offered on a term-rotation basis. Prior to registration each term you may view a list of the courses that are being offered that term by clicking on the Schedule of Classes link that appears within the menu located on the left side of each page on the Web site. On the Schedule of Classes page you can access a general syllabus for a course by clicking one of the Microsoft Word icons located in the Syllabus column. Also, you can send an instructor an e-mail from the course schedule page by clicking on his/her underlined name in the Instructor column. Does TROY accept Federal Financial Aid, VA, and TA? Financial aid may be used for all online courses. TROY accepts both Pell Grants and Stafford Loans. For more specific ionformation about financial aid visit our Financial Aid site. You can obtain pertinent government forms (completion of which is the first step in the financial aid process) and other important information at www.fafsa.com. Are there special programs for me? How do I find out about them? In many cases, there are special programs for the different branches of the armed forces. Please contact us at 1-800-229-0941 and ask for information about our military programs. OK. I want to enroll. Now what? If you have questions during the admission process call us at 1-800-414-5756. *Students who have not attended TROY for one year must complete an Application for Readmission. A new application is required if you have not attended TROY for three years. There is no fee required for the new application. Do you accept transfer credit and how and when is it evaluated? Troy University accepts transfer credit (pursuant to limits set out by the Academic Catalog) from other regionally accredited universities. Can I register at any time? No. Currently all eCampus courses have beginning and ending dates. View our Academic Calendar. How do I pay? TROY accepts MasterCard, Visa, personal checks, money orders, Pell Grants and/or Stafford Loans, TA, VA and certain approved scholarships. Credit cards must be submitted online through Trojan Web Express and checks or money orders must be mailed to the Troy, Alabama campus. Payment for courses is requested at the time of registration but must be paid by the end of the term or registration for subsequent terms will not be allowed. TA students must submit the TA form at the time of registration or prior to the start day of the term. How do I get access to Blackboard and my courses? A proctor is someone you retain to administer your course examinations. Many of our courses require a proctored exam, so you will need to select a qualified proctor to administer the test.
