Troy University eCampus Update 12 ~ Term 2, 2010
Message from the Director...

Who can forget the start of the 2010-2011 academic year?  As we migrated to BB 9.1, we encountered some unexpected difficulties in Term 1. We quickly discovered Blackboard rolled us into the latest version they had developed, not the upgrade we had successfully tested over the summer. We understand this has created some challenges for faculty, students and staff; and we continue to work through the technical issues.  We ask that you report all BB problems to the Educational Technology staff through the ticket system, another innovation that has, undoubtedly, taken some getting used to.  Please understand that the ticket system is already helping us better track and resolve support requests.

eCampus will soon have a new home. The renovations at the University Park facility are on track for completion, and we are packing our bags for a move in mid-December.  Please bear with us this term and during Term 3 registration, as we transfer student folders from their three current locations to the new building. Starting in Term 3, we will be able to provide a new testing area for students.  Open seven days a week, the testing facility will be able to accommodate 40+ students at a time. Full article

‘Al the Astronut' Goes to Space

eCampus' own Gayle Nelson is behind some nutty artwork that is literally out of this world. At the request of the Wiregrass Math and Science Consortium, Nelson, who serves as director of Instructional Design and Educational Resources at eCampus, worked with her son, Jake, to design the character Al the Astronut. Al is currently orbiting the Earth on the International Space Station. Sandy Armstrong, director of the Consortium, came up with the idea for the character and worked with the Marshall Spaceflight Center and the Teaching from Space Office at the Johnson Space Center in Houston to arrange the trip. In September, Space Station Commander Doug Wheelock carried a cutout of Al with him into Space. Al is featured in a series of lesson plans created by the Consortium. They are free to Wiregrass teachers, who want to help their students learn more about space. Full article
