Release of Information to Parents or Spouse
Federal privacy laws protecting student rights prohibit the Office of Financial Aid from disclosing personal financial aid information without your explicit authorization. How to Authorize Release of Information We need a signed, dated, request including your name and Troy University ID number to release information to:
- Your parents if you were required to provide parental information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Your spouse if you were required to provide spousal information on the FAFSA
You are under no obligation to authorize release of your financial aid information. What Does Your Authorization Allow? Your authorization will allow us to speak to your parents or spouse (as applicable) about any and all information related your your financial aid such as:
- Any debts owed to the University for overpayment of financial aid
- Your academic status, including your course work and grades
- Your award
What Does Your Authorization Not Allow?
Your authorization will not allow your parents or spouse to make any of the following changes to your financial aid record:
- Update or change your address
- Cancel your financial aid
- Make any corrections to income or household information
Under certain circumstances, we may provide certain, general, specified information about you to your parents or spouse without your explicit authorization.
