Financial Aid Statistics

The financial aid office provides the US Department of Education the following information on unduplicated student headcount. Any student taking at least one course during one semester, term or session during a particular academic year would be included.

  • 2002/2003 unduplicated headcount:
    undergraduate: 20,337 graduate: 11,259 Total 31,596.
  • 2003/2004 unduplicated headcount:
    undergraduate: 23,210 graduate: 11,368 Total 34,578.
  • 2004/2005 unduplicated headcount:
    undergraduate: 26,513 graduate: 12,447 Total 38,960.
  • 2005/2006 unduplicated headcount:
    undergraduate: 26,550 graduate: 13,144 Total 39,694.
  • 2006/2007 unduplicated headcount:
    undergraduate: 28,505 graduate: 12,073 Total 40,578.

A measure of service is the ratio of students to staff. Here are the number of financial aid staff employed during each academic year.

  • 2002/2003 Financial Aid Staff:Total 15.
  • 2003/2004 Financial Aid Staff:Total 16.
  • 2004/2005 Financial Aid Staff:Total 19.
  • 2005/2006 Financial Aid Staff:Total 21.5.
  • 2006/2007 Financial Aid Staff:Total 24.5.

The financial aid office has continued to award students faster. The following is the number of students who had been awarded by 8/1/ each year since 8/1/2003. Although the numbers awarded at Fall registration are higher, these numbers provide a good indicator of the increased numbers of students whose aid was ready to disburse for T01/Fall. Executive University Policy requires financial aid to disburse after the last day of free/drop add.

  • Students awarded by 08/01/03 - 9,422.
  • Students awarded by 08/01/04 - 14,946.
  • Students awarded by 08/01/05 - 17,701.
  • Students awarded by 08/01/06 - 19,302.
  • Students awarded by 08/01/07 - 24,087.

The following statistics show the number total number of students and the total amount awarded for an academic year.

  • 2003/2004 academic year - 27,623 students were awarded $176.6M.
  • 2004/2005 academic year - 30,258 students were awarded $233.7M.
  • 2005/2006 academic year - 33,593 students were awarded $246.5M.
  • 2006/2007 academic year - 34,018 students were awarded $264.5M.

The following statistics show the total amount of aid disbursed for an academic year.

  • 2001/2002 academic year - Total Aid Disbursed $70M.
  • 2002/2003 academic year - Total Aid Disbursed $88.2M.
  • 2003/2004 academic year - Total Aid Disbursed $128.2M.
  • 2004/2005 academic year - Total Aid Disbursed $170.7M.
  • 2005/2006 academic year - Total Aid Disbursed $184M.

The following statistics show the changes in student satisfaction rating of the Financial Aid Offices (Dothan, Montgomery, and Troy) measured each Fall for that award year.

  • 2003/2004 academic year - Overall Service Excellent/Very Good 49%.
  • 2003/2004 academic year - Overall Service Good or Better 75%.
  • 2004/2005 academic year (system crash) - Overall Service Excellent/Very Good 46%.
  • 2004/2005 academic year (system crash) - Overall Service Good or Better 69%.
  • 2005/2006 academic year - Overall Service Excellent/Very Good 55%.
  • 2005/2006 academic year - Overall Service Good or Better 78%.
  • 2006/2007 academic year - Overall Service Excellent/Very Good 72%.
  • 2006/2007 academic year - Overall Service Good or Better 88%.
