Financial Aid

Graduate students at Troy University may receive limited financial aid. Students may apply for a Subsidized Federal Family Educational Loan of up to $8,500 per academic year plus additional Unsubsidized Loan funds up to the total Cost of Education, not to exceed $18,500 per year.

Troy University has limited funds in the College Work Study Program and the Federal Perkins Student Loan Program for which graduate students may apply. The application deadline is May of each year for students enrolling the following Fall term.

Students enrolled for a minimum of two full time graduate level courses are considered full time, subject to an 8 semester hour minimum. Students must enroll for a minimum of one full time graduate level course to be considered half-time students, subject to a four semester hour minimum.

Graduate students transferring from another institution must submit a Financial Aid Transcript from all institutions previously attended.

All forms required to apply for graduate student financial aid are available on the Financial Aid Office Web site, or may be available from your local financial aid representative.


Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships (For students attending Alabama campuses ONLY)
The objectives of the Graduate Assistantship/Fellowship program are to provide professional experiences which complement graduate instruction and research while contributing financial assistance to students pursuing graduate degrees at TROY sites located in the state of Alabama. This assistantship/fellowship program is designed to aid in the successful completion of the degree pursued and to enhance career opportunities through applied professional experiences.

Perkins Loans
This program provides low interest loans to students who need financial assistance with which to pursue their college education. No interest is charged until graduation and no payments are due while the student is enrolled in college.


FFEL Stafford Loans
These loans are made by approved lenders and are guaranteed by the Federal government. No payments are due on the loan while the student is enrolled in college, and in many cases the Government will pay the interest while the student is enrolled. Loan Request forms may be obtained from the Financial Aid Office.

Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF)
The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program was established by Executive Order in 1977 to attract to the Federal service outstanding individuals from a wide variety of academic disciplines who have an interest in, and commitment to, a career in the analysis and management of public policies and programs. By drawing graduate students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, the PMF Program provides a continuing source of trained men and women to meet the future challenges of public service.

African American Fellowship Program
Troy University is committed to achieving and maintaining diversity within its student body, staff and faculty.  One of the most successful programs in recruiting and retaining African American faculty has been the African American Fellowship Program.  Troy University offers Fellowships up to a maximum of $45,000 each to African American applicants interested in completing their doctoral study and teaching for Troy University. The applicant must hold a master’s degree, have demonstrated prior academic achievement, have a commitment to Troy University, and have the potential to become an excellent faculty member. The successful candidate, upon completion of their doctorate, will be required to teach at least three years at one of Troy University’s Alabama Campuses.

Minority Doctoral Scholars Program - Southern Regional Education Board
The Southern Regional Education Board's State Doctoral Scholars Program was developed with support from The Pew Charitable Trusts and The Ford Foundation. It is part of a nationwide initiative, the Compact for Faculty Diversity, to produce more minority Ph.D.s and to encourage them to seek faculty positions.
