As a student, you’ll benefit from the program’s comprehensive curriculum. You’ll be given the chance to learn in hands-on lab courses, research methods courses and though completing a capstone internship and/or a research project. While pursuing your degree, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, impressive research opportunities and practical field experiences. When you earn your degree, you’ll have a keen understanding of the principles of physiology, metabolism, biomechanics and nutrition as they relate to physical activity and exercise.
Your training will also prepare you to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and other organizations in the related fields of Health and Fitness, Clinical Exercise Testing and Strength and Conditioning. If you decide to pursue the program’s thesis option, you’ll graduate having completed courses in research design and statistics. These provide you with the option to pursue a terminal degree.

According to a 2012 report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median income for an athletic trainer and exercise physiologist is approximately $42,690 annually. Physical therapist assistants and aides see an annual median salary of approximately $39,430, and physical therapists with a doctoral/professional degree see a median salary somewhere around $79,860 annually. This particular profession is estimated to see a 36 percent increase from 2012-22.
