Honors Convocation recognizes the new members of honor societies selected in the past academic year. This checklist should be followed by Honor Society advisors and officers to turn in their information on time.

January 9, 2015 or earlier Request Datatel query if needed for your honor society membership selection.

Helpful Hints

  1. Finish Membership Selection well in advance of the first deadline of March 3, 2015.When collecting information on your new members you must get the mailing address of the students and of their parents/guardians and the e-mail address of the student. Make every effort to get this information from the student not Datatel. If a student has 2 sets of parents, a set of parents and spouse, etc. you may enter in as many sets of parents/grandparents as needed. The information you submit is used to send invitations to the students and their parents to attend Honors Convocation. The Honors Convocation committee sends personalized letters to the new members addressing the students by their first name. Because the letters are personalized do not put the first and middle name of the student in the first name field (unless they go by a double name). Also, do not put the students first name and middle initial. This will cause the personalized letters to be incorrect. Also, we send each student a reminder e-mail about a week before Honors Convocation which is why we require the students’ e-mail addresses.

  2. You must provide an alphabetical list of your new members to be printed in the Honors Convocation program. The list must be typed in Microsoft Word. The list must be first name first, then last name. For example “Jane Doe” not Doe, Jane. In the top right hand corner put the name of your honor society, the name of the individual announcing the members, with their e-mail and phone number. The list must be e-mailed to Bonnie Money in Creative Services, bmoney@troy.edu and Chair of the Printed Program committee, Dr. Rob Kruckeberg at rkruckeberg@troy.edu.

  3. If your Honor Society is initiating members from off campus use your judgment as to whether or not to include those students and parents to get invitations. Most likely you would not but we would encourage you to include them in the New Member List to go into the program.
  4. For planning purposes Natalie Bryant must know whether or not you will be at Honors Convocation rehearsal and Honors Convocation. Please make every effort to be at Honors Convocation at both. Please send her an e-mail confirming your attendance at both events. Her e-mail is bryantn@troy.edu.
  5. If you are not giving out an award at Honors Convocation you do not need to be in the stage party, but can if you wish. Please let us know.
  6. If you are just announcing your honor society, you do not need to be in academic regalia for rehearsal.
  7. Honors Convocation, 7 pm. in Claudia Crosby Theater. Academic regalia is required – no caps. At the time of your group’s initiation, please stress to your members to attend Honors Convocation, where they will be asked to stand and be recognized. Please make every effort to make sure your new members attend Honors Convocation. You will be embarrassed if you recognize your group and no one stands to be recognized. Ask them to invite their parents to attend. Please be in the lobby by 6:30 p.m. for lineup.
