Wiregrass Alumni chapter presents scholarships with proceeds from golf tournament
The Troy University Wiregrass Alumni Chapter presented scholarships to a group of TROY students in July at the Dothan Campus.
The six students represented both incoming freshman and current students. They each received a $1,500 scholarship funded by proceeds from the Wiregrass Alumni Chapter’s annual golf tournament.
The recipients were selected by the chapter’s scholarship committee from a pool of applicants.
Chapter president Scott Childers made the presentations and congratulated each of the recipients.
“We look forward to your future successes,” Childers said. “As alumni, we took a lot of valuable experience from our time at TROY and we hope you will one day look back with as much pride as we do.”
This year’s recipients were:
- Joseph Pruett, a graduate of Dothan High School
- Abigail Goolsby, a TROY sophomore from Dothan
- Megan Yarbrough, a TROY graduate student currently teaching at Wicksburg Elementary School
- Lindsay Lambert, a Dothan High School graduate
- Chris Brooks, a Geneva High School graduate
- Cidney Peel, a Slocomb High School graduate.
The chapter hosted the 2010 Jackson Thornton Invitation Golf Tournament on Sept. 30, at Highland Oaks in Dothan to raise funds for scholarships that will be awarded next year.
Tournament sponsors were: CenturyTel, Covan Worldwide Moving, Durden, Holloway Credit Solutions, Jackson Thornton, Mayer Electric Supply, Mike Schmitz Automotive Group, Regions, Photorama, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, Scenic Cable Network, ScreenTech, Sodexho, Sports Talk AM 560 WOOF “The Ball” and WOOF 99.7.
