Troy University will turn 125 years old in 2012,
and all alumni and friends are invited to join in
the celebration under the theme “For the Love of
“It is an exciting time in the life of Troy
University,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor.
“Of the 100 colleges founded in our founding
year of 1887, 27 are now defunct. Troy University
has thrived because we stand on the rock of our
founding principles. The University’s motto in 1887,
‘Educate the mind to think, the heart to feel and
the body to act,’ remains just as true today.”
Dr. Jean Laliberte, associate vice chancellor for
development, said there are many ways in which
TROY supporters can take part in the celebration.
“Alumni, friends, faculty, staff and current
students will have several opportunities to be
involved through various celebrations, and I hope
they will make every effort to join us in the
celebration of this milestone,” Dr. Laliberte said.
As a part of the celebration, the University has
launched a special website, which is available at The site includes a history
of the University, a historical timeline, information
on upcoming events related to the celebration, a
