With more than 100 years of college athletics excellence to be proud of, Troy University will now officially have a way to honor the many men and women who have contributed to its success.
The Troy University Board of Trustees made sure those contributions, as well as those of future student-athletes, coaches and administrators, will be forever recognized by establishing a Troy University Sports Hall of Fame during its annual spring meeting.
“The Troy University Sports Hall of Fame will shine the spotlight on deserving Trojan warriors, but it will also serve as a place to preserve our great traditions,” Troy University Chancellor, Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., said. “This is another giant step in our full maturation as a Division I program, and I appreciate the trustees’ support on this worthwhile project.”
In addition to the establishment of the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame, the Board also adopted bylaws for the Hall. These bylaws set forth step-by-step guidelines for the nomination and election process, as well as the establishment of a Sports Hall of Fame Board of Advisors.
The Board of Advisors for the Hall will include a wide cross-section of University staff members, alumni and community leaders, as well as members of the news media. The Board of Advisors will select from among its members a chairperson and vice-chairperson who will oversee the nomination and election process for induction into the Hall of Fame.
The actual Troy University Sports Hall of Fame will be housed in the new Trojan Arena, which is currently under construction.
The first class for the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame will include up to 10 inductees, with each successive year set to add up to eight new inductees. At least two inductees in each class through the year 2020 must come from the vintage or “Old-Timers” category.
