Troy University alumnus Matt Humphrey has been named the principal of Dothan (AL) High School.
Humphrey, who earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the Dothan Campus in 1999 and a master’s degree in 2004, was tapped for the position in May by the Dothan School Board.
Humphrey started his teaching career at Girard Middle School in Dothan, where he earned the First Year Teacher of the Year award for the 1999-2000 school year. He then served as assistant principle at Girard Middle School and has been the assistant principal at Dothan High School for the past three years.
Although he comes from a family of educators, Humphrey said he initially considered pursing a different career path while at TROY.
“I guess I just didn’t see myself as being an educator, but I just kind of fell into it and I’ve enjoyed it ever since,” he said. “The first time you get the chance to change a child’s life, you are hooked.”
