1950s
Dr. Jean A. Thompson (1959, 1963) recently retired from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Greenville where she served as the campus director and as an English instructor.  She also retired from the DeKalb County Schools and DeKalb College in DeKalb County, GA, where she served as district dean of students.  Dr. Thompson is past president of the American School Counselor Association and the American Counseling Association.  Her career in education spanned 51 years.

1960s
Dr. J. Roger Breland (1964) was recently recognized as a Signature Sinfonian. The Signature Sinfonian award recognizes alumni members who have achieved a high standard of accomplishment in their field or profession.  As vice president of project development and executive director of The Center for Performing Arts at the University of Mobile, Dr. Breland  brings honor to Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia as one of four members in the 2010 class of inductees.

1970s
Lonnie Scott (1972) is the 2009 recipient of the GEICO Public Service Award for his work in the field of traffic safety and accident prevention. He is the manager for Installation Management Command for the Army traffic safety program at Ft. Campbell, KY. Scott developed and implemented all aspects of the traffic safety program and trained more than 8,000 soldiers and Department of Army civilians during the previous year. He and his wife, Heidi, have two children.

Cornell Torrence (1978) was recently inducted into the Atmore Area Hall of Fame. Torrence, who coached basketball and football for 39 years in Escambia County, was one of six honorees in the 2010 class. He currently serves as a city councilman in Atmore where he resides with his wife Mavis Banks Torrence. The couple has three children.

1980s
Jeffrey M. Brannon (1981), chief executive officer of Medical Center Enterprise, has been named chairman of the Alabama Hospital Association.

Ronnie Dollar (1982) is the new director of the Barbour County Emergency Management Agency. Dollar previously served as chief detective for the Eufaula Police Department. He also holds a master’s degree from the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.

Pat Hales (1985, 1994) is the new principal of Hidden Lake Elementary School in Dothan. Hales has worked in the Dothan City Schools for the past 25 years, most recently as a program specialist at Hidden Lake and Heard Magnet School.

Steve Sanders (1988), vice president of First Citizens Bank in Luverne, was recently named by his peers as chairman of the Leadership Community Bankers, a component of the Community Bankers Association of Alabama (CBAA).

Bryan N. Kindred (1982), president and chief executive officer of DCH Health System in Tuscaloosa, has been named chairman-elect of the Alabama Hospital Association.

Randy Wilkes (1989, 1992) was recently elected as Superintendent of Crewshaw County Schools.  He had served as the county’s coordinator for special education and federal programs.  His is married to Cathy Carr Wilkes (1986) who teaches at Luverne High School and serves as Crenshaw County’s Relay for Life chairperson.  Both Randy and Cathy have served as president of TROY’s Crenshaw County Alumni Chapter.

1990s
Rick J. Maglione (1990) is currently captain in command of the Office of Internal Affairs for the Fort Lauderdale (FL) Police Department.  He was recently selected to attend the FBI National Academy for command officers in January 2011.  Capt. Maglione is the proud father of one-year-old Rylee, 12-year-old Robert and 14-year-old Alexandra.

Taryl Anderson (1991) is interim superintendent of Troup County (GA) schools.

Jimmie Fryer (1991) was recently named principal of Barbour County High School. He formerly served as principal of Barbour County Intermediate School.

Chad E. Stewart (1995), an attorney with the Enterprise law firm of Marsh, Cotter & Stewart, has been elected to the Alabama Council of School Board Attorneys’ Board of Directors. Stewart represents the Dale County and Daleville school boards.

J. Chad Jones (1996), vice president of the First National Bank of Talladega, recently graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. Jones has been with the First National Bank of Talladega since 2007.

Jason Curtis Bryant (1997) was recently appointed principal of South Girard School in Phenix City.  South Girard is an all-8th grade school in the Phenix City Public Schools system.

Lisa Kelley (1997) of Auburn, formerly of Valley, received her master’s degree in social work from the University of Alabama during spring commencement exercises.

2000s
Cpt. Michael A. Dickerson (2002) of the United States Army has been recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in military services. Cpt. Dickerson served with the 21st Calvary Brigade and has served two rotations in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Neil Grantham (2004) has purchased Marsh Insurance Agency in Elba. The business will now be known as The Grantham Agency. Grantham has been in the insurance business since 2004. He and his wife, DeAnn, reside in Elba.

Erin T. Gilmore (2002) recently graduated from the University of South Alabama’s School of Medicine. She will complete her residency training in pediatric medicine at Greenville Hospital System/University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville, SC.

Cheron Nicole Hunter (2003) received her doctorate degree in reading education from Auburn University in August.

Dr. Phillip K. Henderson (2006) has been received into the membership of the University of South Alabama’s Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Society. The honor recognizes his demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service. Henderson is a 2009 graduate of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He is currently doing his residency in internal medicine at USA and plans to specialize in gastroenterology and liver diseases. Henderson resides in Mobile with his wife, the former April Hawthorne (2006).

Steve Lester (2006) has been appointed chief of staff for the Polk County (FL) Sheriff’s Department. He previously served as detention chief.

Wang Chaun (2007) recently received his doctoral degree in physical therapy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. 

Rick Sloan (2007) recently was named chief of the Haines City (FL) Police Department. 

Maribeth Burke (2008) recently was named Bainbridge (GA) Middle School’s Teacher of the Year. She has taught choral and general music in the Decatur County school system for five years. Burke and her husband, Jeremy, have a son, Jeb. 

Army Maj. Michael V. Bush (2008) recently returned to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, after a one-year deployment to Afghanistan. Bush is a member of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.  

Tonya Gardner (2008) was recently named Jackson County, FL Teacher of the Year. Gardner is music, language arts and social studies teacher at Marianna (FL) Middle School.

LeeAnn McKenzie (2008) was recently promoted to staff accountant II with Hartmann, Blackmon and Kilgore, P.C. in Fairhope. The Daphne resident joined the firm in 2008.

Andrea Nicole Roberts (2008) was recently named as a Presidential Management Fellowship finalist.  The Presidential Management Fellowship is a two-year rotational program in various federal agencies designed to attract exceptional men and women into federal service. Each year between 300 to 500 being selected as finalists.
The two-year paid fellowship includes 160 hours of classroom training, a developmental assignment, optional rotating assignments, promotion potential and opportunities to network with federal employees and future leaders. 
Roberts will be working for the Air Force Space and Missile System Test Wing based at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.  Roberts is a 2010 graduate of Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service.  She has a master’s degree in international affairs with a concentration in national security studies.

Jennifer L. Smith (2008) of Flower Mound, TX was accepted to A.T. Still University’s Master of Physician Assistant Studies program in Mesa, Arizona.

Amy VanRider (2008) was recently promoted to assistant vice president of Friend Bank in Geneva.  

Tricia Di Lullo (2009) was recently named director of alumni affairs and annual giving at Athens State University. She holds a master’s degree in postsecondary education from TROY. 

Marcus Drew Donaldson (2009) is pursuing his Doctorate of Pharmacy at Union University in Jackson, TN. He is married to the former Kristi Kohen.

Wendy Gray (2009), a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, has joined the practice of Dr. David Fagan at Lanier Primary Care in Valley. 

Erin Sellers (2009) was recently named advertising director for The Piedmont Journal newspaper. Sellers and her husband, Jared, reside in Anniston.
