Trojans softball team faces challenging schedule

Jessica Lyle

TROY Trojans Softball Coach Melanie Davis hopes that a challenging schedule will prepare the team for a possible post-season run.

The 2008 softball schedule includes five tournament appearances and match ups against SEC powers LSU and Alabama and Big East foe Louisville.

TROY finished as runners-up in the Sun Belt Conference in 2007, and Davis hopes that the Trojans will benefit from this year’s challenging schedule.

“We have tried to put together a strong tournament schedule against proven Division I teams,” Davis said.

“The key for the Sun Belt Conference to get more than our one guaranteed team into the NCAA tournament is for all of the member schools to play strong non-conference schedules and do well with those,” she said.

The Trojans will also play a difficult 24-game Sun Belt Conference schedule.

“We are very excited about welcoming back the University of Alabama to TROY, as they are a perennial top 10 team in the country,” Davis said.

This is the first visit by the Crimson Tide to TROY since 2005.

“We feel very good about the schedule we have put together and that it will prepare our team for a very successful season,” Davis said.
