Troy University Assistant Soccer coach Claire Scanlan was recently honored for her outstanding accomplishments with the Irish women’s national team.
Scanlan was recognized by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) for her part in raising the interest in the sport in Ireland.
“To be able to play for your country is an honor in itself and for the FAI to acknowledge my career on such a grand scale is an incredible tribute, one I shall always treasure,” Scanlan said.
Scanlan played in almost 60 games for the Irish team in the European and World Cup qualifying games. She was also named Player of the Year in 1999.
“We are extremely fortunate to have her as a part of this University,” TROY head coach Chris Bentley said.
