The Christopher Clarke Patterson Award was given by Chattahoochee Valley Community College for the first time during the graduation ceremony on May 14.
Chris was a native of Troy and a Troy University alumnus (2000 and MBA 2001). This year, the award was given to Carla Smith, who plans to continue her education at UAB in biomedical engineering. Dr. and Mrs. Doug Patterson of Troy were present to congratulate the winner.
This award will be given annually to a student who excels in community and college service, as well as in scholarship. It honors the memory of Chris Patterson, an advisor, mentor, instructor, and friend to many at Chattahoochee Valley Community College from 2002-2009. Chris passed away November 27, 2009 of complications from pneumonia.
Chris’ sister, Natalie, said, “Chris' legacy continues to live on…To think that 20 years from now I can attend a CVCC graduation and watch as someone accepts the Chris Patterson Outstanding Student Award with pride makes my heart smile.” Dr. and Mrs. Patterson offered their appreciation to the CVCC faculty and administration for establishing this award in honor of Chris.
