Attorney General to discuss Mentor Alabama with TSU students
Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor will visit Troy State University on Tuesday, Feb. 20 to discuss his Mentor Alabama program with student leaders. Pryor will meet with the TSU students from 2-3 p.m. at Wendell Mitchell Hall.
The program’s goal is to recruit mentors for Alabama’s youth in an effort to curb juvenile crime, youth violence and gang involvement. Volunteers will be provided a list of mentoring opportunities in the area. Pryor has said he wants to recruit at least 2002 mentors for the program by the year 2002.
Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, encourages TSU students to get involved in Mentor Alabama. "General Pryor’s effort to recruit mentors is admirable, and it fits well with Troy State University’s philosophy of helping our students learn leadership skills," Dr. Hawkins said. "Service is a vital component of leadership."
Detailed information on the program can be obtained by calling Director Lynn Childs at 1-888-356-2400 or by visiting the web site at www.ago.state.al.us/mentor.
