Internationally acclaimed choir sets tribute concert at TSU for March 6
World-renowned Russian choir Chorovaya Akademia has scheduled a special concert to honor a Troy State University benefactor for Tuesday, March 6.
Sponsored by the Troy State University Lyceum Series and the Troy Council on the Arts and Humanities, the concert is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater. The Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts also provided support for the performance.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students and can be purchased at TSU’s John M. Long School of Music, Troy-area banks, WTBF Radio and the Gazebo. Call (334) 670-3322 for ticket information. The concert is a memorial tribute to Troy native Claudia Graves Crosby, a TSU friend who funded renovation of the theater that now bears her name. The theater opened in February 2000. Mrs. Crosby, a longtime fan and benefactor of the arts, died last May.
Chorovaya Akademia, a 16-member men’s a cappella ensemble, is currently making its fourth tour of the United States, playing to rave reviews in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and elsewhere. The Moscow-based chorus is renowned for its range, technique and interpretations, performing a mix of secular music, sacred music of the Russian Orthodox Church and pieces by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and other Russian composers.
Chorovaya Akademia won the grand prize at the 1997 World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. The group has recorded for Le Chant du Monde and RCA Victor Red Seal, which produced the best-selling “Ancient Echoes” album.
