Trumpet Symposium Concert March 10 |
The
Troy State University John M. Long School of Music will present
its third annual Trumpet Symposium/Day of Percussion on March
10, highlighted by a gala concert at 7:30 pm in Claudia Crosby
Theater. This year's symposium will also include the first TSU
high school trumpet solo competition, high school honors trumpet
and percussion ensembles and master classes. The concert, which
is free and open to the public, will feature concerts by the
high school honors ensembles, Troy State University ensembles,
and symposium faculty.
The trumpet solo competition will be held at 11 a.m. in the
Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. Finalists can receive annual music scholorships
and the opportunity to be a guest soloist with a TSU band. Finalists are Teresa
Fryer of Alabama Christian Academy in Montgomery, Melanie Hanlon of Interlachen
High School in Florida, Nick McDonald of Grissom High School in Huntsville and
Scott Permar of Oconee County High School in Watkinsville. WTBF radio personality
Doc Kirby will host the competition, which is also free and open to the public.
Clinicians for the even are Dr. Bryan DePoy, Professor of Trumpet,
Southeastern Louisiana University; Dr. Paul Hankins, Professor of Trumpet, Delta
State University; James Zingara, TSU Professor of Trumpet; John Lawless, Timpanist
with the Chattanooga Symphony; Jason Smith, Enterprise High School; and Paula
