| TSU’s
Phenix City campus to dedicate new building Feb. 28 |
Troy
State University-Phenix City will dedicate its new academic building
with a special ceremony Wednesday, Feb. 28 beginning at 11 a.m.
EST at the building site.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include remarks from Dr. Ed
Richardson, State Superintendent of Education; Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor
of the Troy State University System; Peggy Martin, Mayor of Phenix City; Bobby
Peters, Mayor of Columbus, Ga.; and Dr. Curtis Pitts, Vice President of the Phenix
City campus.
The new academic building is the first major construction project
for TSU-PC since 1993 when Higginbotham Hall was dedicated. Dr. Pitts said growth
in the university’s graduate school created the need for the new building.
"When we built the Higginbotham Building we thought it would
handle our growth, but we’ve already run out of room," Dr. Pitts said. "This
new building will ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our students."
The 27,000 square-foot building will house the Department of
Education, Center for Professional Development, two computer labs and two distance
learning classrooms Pitts said. The building is located on Seale Road across
from the existing campus. Russell County businessman Johnny Dudley donated 10
acres for the project, Pitts said.
"We are extremely grateful to Mr. Dudley for his generosity,
and we also want to thank Mead Coated Board for donating the funds to purchase
the furnishings and equipment for one of the state-of-the-art distance learning
classrooms," Dr. Pitts said.
McKee and Associates handled the architectural wok on the project,
while The Lisle Company was the general contractor.
A reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held following
the ceremony. |
