Williamson named January winner of TSU's McKinley Award
Troy State University staff member Jo Williamson has been named the winner of the Vergil Parks McKinley Outstanding Employee Award for January.
Williamson, who serves as administrative assistant in the John M. Long School of Music, was presented the award during a Jan. 29 ceremony in the Hawkins Adams Long Hall of Honor.
The McKinley Award is given monthly to a TSU employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a TSU professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university's athletic program. Award winners receive an engraved clock and a $300 stipend.
Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, said Williamson has "made her mark" as a member of the university staff.
"Jo is unfailingly cheerful and upbeat, and most importantly, she is always helpful to students, faculty and the public," Dr. Hawkins said. "She exemplifies the Trojan spirit in her work and her demeanor."
Dr. William Denison, Director of the John M. Long School of Music, said the school "couldn't get along without" Williamson.
"Jo is helpful in so many ways," Dr. Denison said. "She monitors all of the school's budgets, and does so with accuracy and integrity. She also handles registration and counsels our students.
"She is constantly courteous and cheerful and is an excellent frontline person for the school of music and the university," he said. Williamson, a member of the TSU staff since May 1986, has worked in her current position for three years. She is also a TSU graduate."It is such an honor to know that the people you work with think so much of you," Williamson said. "I really appreciate this award."
