Cultural diversity focus of forum at TSU
As part of an outreach effort to raise awareness of cultural diversity on the Troy State University campus, the Student Government Association will sponsor a cultural diversity forum and luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at noon in the Bibb Graves conference room.
"The SGA, faculty and administration are taking steps to bridge the gap between American and international students which will help students to realize the diversity among their peers," said Meryl Jones, SGA's vice president of legislative affairs. "The forum is also to acknowledge important issues facing international students."
The cultural diversity forum will consist of a discussion panel of TSU faculty, administration, international students, fraternity and sorority presidents and other campus leaders.
Panel member John W. Schmidt, Vice President of Student Affairs, said this is the first attempt to bridge cultural diversity. "We have an international population of over 280 students," said Schmidt. "The intention of this forum is to take time to learn about their cultures and traditions and enlighten them with ours."
The cultural diversity forum serves as a natural segue into Black History month, Schmidt said. For more information contact the Office of Student Involvement at 670-3204.
