| Anderson
tapped for TSU's McKinley Award |
Troy
State University staff member Susan Anderson is the recipient
of the Vergil Parks McKinley Outstanding Employee Award for March.
Anderson, who works as secretary for the Department of History,
was presented the award during a March 21 ceremony in the Hawkins
Adams Long Hall of Honor.
The McKinley Award is presented monthly to a TSU employee who
has demonstrated exemplary attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was
established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil
Parks McKinley, who was a TSU professor during the early 20th century and was
key to the development of the university's athletic program. Award winners receive
an engraved clock and a $300 stipend.
Anderson does the small things that often go unnoticed, said
John W. Schmidt, Vice President for Student Affairs, who presented the award. "Anderson
greets everyone with a smiling face and a pleasant hello, and always has a cooperative,
helpful attitude," Schmidt said. "She makes a difference in the daily life of
Troy State University." Dr. Allen Dennis, professor and chair of the Department
of History, said Anderson is an invaluable member of the department.
"In addition to being an excellent secretary, Susan's advice
and help have been very valuable to me," Dennis said. "She also takes an interest
in our department outside her official duties. I don't know what I would do without
her."
A resident of Troy, Anderson has been a member of the TSU staff
for more than 20 years. She said she was flattered and surprised to receive the
award.
"I have to thank my colleagues for their support, and I thank
the university for this high honor," Anderson said. "I will continue to do the
best I can to promote Troy State University." |
