| Chambers
named TSU Sorrell College of Business Honorary Alumnus
of the Year |
The
Sorrell College of Business at Troy State University has honored
Rick Chambers of Birmingham, a leading executive in the health-care
industry, with its annual Honorary Alumnus of the Year Award.
Chambers was presented the award recently at a banquet held
to culminate the annual spring alumni, parents and friends weekend at TSU. Dr.
Tom Ratcliffe, Dean of the Sorrell College of Business, presented Chambers with
the award.
Dr. Ratcliffe explained that Chambers was instrumental in working
with the College of Business to develop TSU’s first executive master of
business administration degree tailored specifically for a specific firm. TSU
began teaching the HealthSouth EMBA via the Internet in 1998.
"Rick Chambers has worked with the Sorrell College of Business
to develop a program that is allowing HealthSouth to grow its next generation
of business leaders," Dr. Ratcliffe said. "Together, we have developed a program
that’s not only healthcare-specific, but HealthSouth specific."
The HealthSouth EMBA program currently serves more than 100
students and has produced more than 30 graduates in a little over two years.
In accepting the award, Chambers said he was impressed with
the Sorrell College of Business’ "can-do attitude" and "dedication to academic
excellence."
Chambers currently serves as Senior Vice President of Operations
and Administration for Source Medical Solutions, Inc. Prior to joining Source
Medical, Mr. Chambers was a Group Vice President of Operations and Administration
for the HealthSouth Outpatient Division, Eastern Region.
Before joining HealthSouth, Chambers served as a hospital administrator
for Hospital Management Associates and was President and General Manager of Home
Medical Rentals Inc.
Chambers was also clinical director of The Respiratory Therapy
Program, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Community and
Allied Health Resources, where he helped establish the first accredited program
for Respiratory Therapy in the State of Alabama.
Chambers currently serves on the Board of Students in Free
Enterprise and is a charter member of Kids Chance Scholarship Committee founded
by the Worker’s Compensation section of the Alabama Bar Association. |
