TSU to promote highway safety before spring break

Troy State University campus police will hand out a record number of "tickets" this week designed to encourage students, faculty and staff to drive safely during spring break week, March 26-30.
The TSU police will hand out cards Thursday and Friday reminding drivers to have a safe spring break. The "Be a LifeSaver" ticket will also include a sweet reminder a piece of Lifesavers® candy.
Roadblocks will be set up to check for seatbelt use, driver’s licenses and vehicle safety. The special reminder tickets will also be handed out at these roadblocks.
Campus police officials are also reminding all faculty, staff and students to drive with their headlights on during spring break week to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving.
"We’re taking these steps to remind our students to have fun responsibly over the break," John Schmidt, Vice President of Student Affairs, said. "I’m sure many of our students are planning trips to the beach and we want them to return to campus safely."
Classes are scheduled to resume at TSU Monday, April 2.
