Troy State University to present 2002 Finale Chorale Concert April 28
A variety of popular, traditional and contemporary works will be featured when Troy State University’s John M. Long School of Music presents its 2002 Finale Chorale Concert on Sunday, April 28.
The concert is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the TSU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
More than 100 performers will take the stage for the concert, said Paul McGahie, Director of Chorale Activities at TSU. Participating TSU student choruses include the Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir, Women’s Madrigals, Gospel Choir and Opera Ensemble. The Troy Children’s Chorus, a community choir based at the John M. Long School of Music, will participate as well. McGahie and fellow music faculty members Dr. Catherine Allard and John Molette will serve as directors.
“This concert will feature all of our choruses and choirs performing new music as well as hits and favorite songs from our previous concerts this year,” McGahie said. “We invite everyone to come and enjoy this special concert as we close our spring season.”
Selections for the 2002 Finale Chorale Concert include Morten Lauridsen’s “O Nata Lux;” “Danny Boy” and other popular Irish folksongs; African-American spirituals and gospel selections; songs with percussion from Africa, the Caribbean and South America; a medley of tunes from the Broadway hit “Les Miserables” and from the music of Billy Joel; and a special staged selection performed by the Women’s Madrigals.
