TSU’s ‘Sound of the South’ Concert Band to give outdoor concert April 25
Troy State University will play host to an evening of outdoor music Thursday, April 25 when the “Sound of the South” Concert Band gives its annual spring concert.
The concert is set for 6 p.m. in the TSU Amphitheatre, located near the Adams University Center on the TSU campus. It is open to the public and free of charge. The concert is sponsored by WTBF Radio of Troy.
Concert-goers are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and pack a picnic basket, said Ray Smith, associate professor of music and conductor of the Sound of the South Concert Band.
“This time of year is just right for an evening of band music outdoors,” Smith said. “We invite everyone to come and enjoy an old-fashioned concert in the park.”
The program will feature a variety of classical and light music, Smith said, including “English Folk Song Suite,” “Bugler’s Holiday” and selections from Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” as well as selected marches.
In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be relocated to the Claudia Crosby Theater. Call (334) 670-3281 for more information.
