photographer to speak at Troy State University April 23 |
Troy
State University will play host to internationally renowned wildlife
photographer Tom J. Ulrich for a wildlife and photography seminar
on Tuesday, April 23.
The program is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Adams Center Theatre
for the Performing Arts on the TSU campus. It is open to the public and free
of charge.
Ulrich will discuss animal behavior and photo technique in
the seminar, which will include a lecture and slide presentation. The event is
sponsored by the TSU department of art and design, the Center for Design, Technology
and Industry at TSU and the Southeast Alabama Photography and Adventure Club.
A freelance wildlife photographer since 1975, Ulrich has captured
more than 450 bird species and 90 mammal species on film. His work has been featured
in National Geographic, Life, National Wildlife, Ranger Rick and other leading
wildlife publications. He has also published several books, most recently including “Photo
Pantanal,” “Once Upon a Frame” and “Mammals of the Canadian
Rockies.”
Ulrich has received a number of awards for his work, including
the grand prize in the 1996 National Wildbird Photo Contest. He was named International
Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the mammal behavior category in 1987. He
has been sponsored by the Prudential Corp., British Broadcasting Corp. and the
London Museum of Natural History. He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Outdoor
Writers and Photographers Association and is a former board member of the Outdoor
Writers Association of America.
Ulrich received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois
University. He is a resident of West Glacier, Mont.
