American Chamber Players to perform at TSU Sept. 9
South Alabama fans of National Public Radio’s "Performance Today" are in for a special treat Monday, Sept. 9, when Miles Hoffman and his group, the American Chamber Players arrive at Troy State University's Claudia Crosby Theater for a special 7:30 concert.
There will be no admission charged for this concert, but donations to benefit the John M. Long School of Music will be accepted at the door.
Formed in 1985 by Hoffman from a core group of artists of The Library of Congress Summer Chamber Festival, the members of the ACP have toured throughout North America by prestigious concert series from Florida to British Columbia. In addition to his lively commentary for "Performance Today" and "All Things Considered," Hoffman is also an accomplished violist.
A successful string quartet player, Miles founded the American Chamber Players to play music for piano, flute and harp as well as strings. The group combines and recombines to play duets, trios, quartets and quintets. They perform a varied repertoire ranging from familiar masterpieces to newly commissioned American works, and their recordings are distributed internationally on the Koch International Classics label.
Other members of the group are Loren Kitt, clarinet; Joanna Maurer, violin; Michael Mermagen, cello; and Edward Newman, piano.
Call the John M. Long School of Music at 334-670-3322 for further information.
