Taiwanese students travel to Troy to complete degree, graduate on Dec. 13
Eleven Troy State University students from Taiwan have arrived on campus to put the finishing touches on their Executive Master of Business Administration degrees and to receive those degrees next Friday at commencement.
The students, mostly upper-level and mid-level management personnel from Taiwanese firms, have been earning their graduate degrees at TSU’s site in Taiwan. They will spend the next few days in the classroom completing their degree programs.
"They have a pretty busy schedule for the next few days," said Robert Allen, Coordinator of Student Services for University College, the division that operates all TSU campuses and programs outside of Alabama. "They will have some time off Thursday."
The students are scheduled to visit Montgomery Thursday to meet with state officials, including Lieutenant Governor-elect Lucy Baxley and Speaker of the House Seth Hammett.
Dr. Susan Aldridge, Vice President of University College, said that in addition to the 11 Taiwanese students, a student from University College’s Hong Kong campus is traveling to Troy to receive his degree.
"These students are outstanding professionals who value the prestige of a graduate degree provided by an American university," Dr. Aldridge said. "Their visit provides them with a wonderful opportunity to see their home campus and it gives our faculty and administrators in Troy the rare opportunity to meet with students from one of our campuses abroad."
University College administers more than 50 sites in 15 U.S. states and eight foreign nations and oversees the Distance Learning Center in Troy, which provides degree programs over the Internet.
Taiwanese students visiting TSU are Huang Kuang-Hua of ComputTaiwan Information Corp., Ltd.; Fann Chen I of Uniform Industrial Corp.; Lin Mei-Ling of SAMPOCo.; Liou Shu-Ping of Air Academy; Wu Chung-Shun of Elitegroup Computer System Co.; Ong Harry Go of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company; Hsueh Li Ming of Natural Data Asia; Ni Hui Chu of DnE Information Service; Tang Yu-Yun of National Laboratroy Food and Drug; Wu Cheng-Tao of China Metal Products Co., Ltd; and Tu O.    TSU’s commencement ceremony is scheduled to begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Sartain Hall.
