Black History Month program set for Feb. 13 at Troy State University
     Dr. Ethel H. Hall, Vice President of the Alabama Board of Education, will serve as keynote speaker at Troy State University’s annual Black History Month program Wednesday, Feb. 13.
   Titled “Celebrating African-American Women down through the Centuries,” the program is set for 10 a.m. in the Adams University Center ballrooms. Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. Sponsored by the TSU African-American Alliance, the event will also feature remarks from university officials and students. Call (334) 670-3204 for more information.
   Dr. Hall, a resident of Fairfield, was first elected to the Alabama Board of Education in 1987. She has served on the faculty of the University of Montevallo and the University of Alabama and was a teacher in the Jefferson County School System. She has also worked as executive director of the adolescent dropout and early childhood intervention programs for the Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity.
   Dr. Hall has served on the boards of directors of the National Association of State Boards of Education, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the National Conference of Community and Justice. She has also served on the Dean’s Advisory Council on Education for the University of Alabama, the University of Alabama Birmingham and the University of Montevallo. She was recently recognized by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of the “top 10 women making a difference” in the Birmingham area.
   Dr. Hall received a bachelor’s degree from Alabama A&M University, earned master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and Atlanta University and received a doctorate from the University of Alabama.
