Troy State University to present Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ Feb. 16
The final composition of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be brought to life when the John M. Long School of Music at Troy State University presents a special performance of “Requiem in d minor” on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater, located on University Avenue on the TSU campus. Admission is free.
The concert will feature the voices of the TSU Collegiate Singers, the university’s premier concert choir, as well as the Enterprise State Junior College Concert Choir. Members of the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra will also perform. Paul McGahie, director of choral activities at TSU, will serve as conductor.
Mozart’s final work, “Requiem” had to be completed by a student when the renowned composer died before finishing the composition in 1791, McGahie said.
“Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ is one of the world’s best loved choral-orchestral musical works,” he said. “It contains music of tenderness and fire, consolation and praise.”
The program will also include the “Ave verum corpus” motet and the famed “Alleluia” cantata, McGahie said.
“This concert features some of TSU’s best student soloists,” he said. “We invite everyone to come and enjoy this special performance.”
