Judy Davis tapped for top employee award at TSU

Troy State University staff member Judy Davis is the recipient of the Vergil Parks McKinley Outstanding Employee Award for February.
Davis, who works as operations manager for the department of Radio and Television, was presented the award during a Feb. 25 ceremony in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on the TSU campus. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., TSU Chancellor, presented the award.
The McKinley Award, the highest honor the university gives to a non-faculty staff member, is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a TSU professor in the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university’s athletic program. Award winners receive an engraved clock and a $300 stipend.
A full-time employee since 1989, Davis has been a member of the TSU staff since 1982. She was promoted to her current position in 1997. She is never satisfied to “just do enough to get by” and is very efficient at her work, said James Clower, director of Radio and Television.
“Judy represents the Radio and Television staff in a very positive way,” he said. “She sets the example for us – she is the pacesetter. We are extremely appreciative of her.”
A resident of Pike County and native of Louisiana, Davis said she was very honored to receive the McKinley Award.
“I have a great boss and work with a great bunch of people, which makes my job a lot easier,” she said. “Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do my job as efficiently as they say I do.”
