Andalusia’s Melissa McCord claims title of Miss TSU 2002
Melissa McCord of Andalusia is the winner of the 31st annual Miss Troy State University pageant.
McCord, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice, was crowned Miss TSU 2002 during ceremonies held Feb. 23 in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the TSU campus. She won the talent competition, singing the hymn “How Great Thou Art,” and captured the swimsuit competition as well.
As Miss TSU, McCord will represent the university at the Miss Alabama pageant in June. She will also serve as an ambassador for TSU at university and community events during the next year. She is the recipient of more than $8,000 in scholarships and prizes, including a one-year, full-tuition scholarship and various gifts from pageant sponsors.
McCord is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society, the TSU Collegiate Singers and Chi Omega sorority. She participates in TSU’s intramural sports program, including softball, soccer and flag football. She was third runner-up in the Miss TSU 2001 pageant.
   Other pageant finalists were:
  • First runner-up, Andrea Domizio of Troy; Second runner-up, Courtney Dennis of Hoover; Third runner-up, Lacey Brand of Sterrett; and Fourth runner-up, Crystal Suggs of Midland City.
  • Dennis was also the winner of the Director’s Award and Autumn McGill of Wadley was presented the People’s Choice Award.
McKee and Associates, a Montgomery-based architecture firm, was the principal corporate supporter of this year’s pageant. McKee donated $5,000 to the event, according to Dr. Jean Laliberte, Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
