Foley native Jonathan McKenzie elected SGA president at TSU
    Jonathan McKenzie of Foley was elected Student Government Association president by a 14-vote margin at Troy State University Wednesday, Feb. 27.
   McKenzie defeated Jessica Lewis of Millbrook. He received 360 votes, while Lewis received 346 votes.
   McKenzie is a junior majoring in information systems and business management. As SGA president, he plans to work on improving campus safety, parking and food costs. He also wants to build a bridge between SGA representatives and the student body.
   "Unity is something we need, especially since the events of last September," McKenzie told the Tropolitan, TSU's student newspaper. "I think our eyes have been opened. We have realized we aren't guaranteed tomorrow and we need to live each day like it is our last."
   He will serve as SGA president through spring semester 2003.
   Other officers elected were:
  • Vice-president of legislative affairs: Ashley Fowler of Oneonta; Vice-president of campus activities: Nick Abraham of Prattville;
  • Secretary: Tara Parker of Sumter, S.C.; and Clerk: Carlyn Bowser of Pleasant Grove.
