| TSU mourning death of sophomore rodeo champion |

State University is mourning the death of student Patrick Smith,
who received a fatal injury last Saturday in rodeo competition
in Shelbyville, Tenn. Smith, the son of Ben Smith and Angela Smith, died Tuesday morning, according to reports from family and friends. Smith, a sophomore from Banks and a graduate of Charles Henderson High School in Troy, was majoring in business. "The Troy State University family is saddened by this tragedy," Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Patrick’s family and friends at this time. Patrick exemplified the ideal of the student-athlete." Smith was a former Alabama high school state champion who was chosen for the Alabama team that competed at the Annual National High School Finals Rodeo in July 2000. |
