| State Treasurer to speak at second TSU Women’s History Celebration |

Treasurer Lucy Baxley will be the principal speaker at the second
annual Women’s History Celebration at Troy State University
Thursday, March 7 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Trojan Center Theatre. The general public, as well as all TSU students, faculty and staff, are invited to attend. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the TSU Student Government Association and Panhellenic Council. Ms. Baxley is a native of Houston County and a graduate of Ashford High School. She attended Auburn University at Montgomery and has had a long career in city, county and state government. Ms. Baxley has held positions in County Probate Court and in the District Attorney's Office. Her career in state government in Alabama has included serving as the Executive Assistant to the State Attorney General and as Administrator of the Legal Division of the Department of Transportation. She was elected State Treasurer in 1994 in her first campaign for public office. She was re-elected in 1998. As treasurer, Ms. Baxley is responsible for overseeing all bank accounts for the state. The office also oversees the Board of Control of the Retirement Systems of Alabama, the Alabama Trust Fund, the Bond Commission, the Alabama Housing Authority and the Industrial Access Authority. She is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. |
