Four Troy State University faculty and staff members named Chancellor's Fellows
Four Troy State University faculty and staff members have been chosen for the Chancellor's Faculty and Staff Fellowship Program for the 2001-02 academic year.
Fellows chosen were Edith Warr Smith of Troy State University, Donna S. Miller of Troy State University Dothan, Kimberly Combs of Troy State University Montgomery and Elizabeth K. Ullery of Troy State University at Phenix City.
Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, began the program in 1995 to increase full-time faculty and staff knowledge and understanding of the programs and operations of the TSU System, Dr. Shirley Woodie, Director of the Institute for Leadership Skills, said.
"Fellows have the opportunity to learn new administrative skills through participation in various activities and working in conjunction with senior-level administrators," Dr.Woodie said.

  • Dr. Smith, a native of Clayton, is associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotions at TSU.
Dr. Smith said she believes the Chancellor's Fellowship Program offers an excellent opportunity to expand her experiences beyond the college classroom to a more expansive understanding of the Troy State University System.
"The program allows faculty aspiring to enter into administrative roles in the TSU System an opportunity to learn through experience," Dr. Smith said.

  • Dr. Miller is the reference librarian at the Troy State University Dothan campus.
Dr. Miller said the Chancellor's Fellow Program is a unique forum to facilitate communication among representatives from various campuses.
"As the issues are debated and discussed, I hope the solutions that will be forthcoming will make a difference in the services and educational opportunities throughout the TSU System," Dr. Miller said.

  • Dr. Combs is assistant professor of education and interim dean of graduate school at Troy State University Montgomery.
Dr. Combs said the experience of being a Chancellor's Fellow will benefit her personally and professionally through interaction with others involved in the program.
"I anticipate having a deeper understanding of the TSU system, which will enhance my ability to fulfill my service to the university and the system," Dr. Combs said.

  • Dr. Ullery is the assistant professor in counseling and psychology at Troy State University at Phenix City.
Dr. Ullery said she believes that the Chancellor's Fellowship Program will broaden her understanding of the TSU System's operational issues as well as the wide scope of resources that exist within the system.
"In the process of networking, I expect to learn specific administrative skills and behaviors that will be mutually beneficial for me and the TSU System," Dr. Ullery said.
