plans orientation sessions for new students Troy State University has scheduled eight orientation sessions for new students in July and August, according to Susan Pierce, Director of Student Development/Counseling. The two-day orientation sessions — called IMPACT at TSU — will begin July 17, Pierce said. Because the first three freshman sessions are filled, Pierce said the earliest openings for incoming freshmen are available in the session scheduled for July 29-30. More than 500 students have registered to attend the orientation sessions. Pierce said IMPACT is designed to introduce students to college life, with meetings on academic planning, extracurricular involvement, residence hall life and college "survival" skills. "Orientation is much more than giving campus tours and handing out T-shirts," Pierce said. "We provide incoming freshmen with information they need to make a smooth transition to college life. And, we provide a fun introduction to the place that will be their home for the next few years." Pierce added that IMPACT also includes a pair of one-day sessions for students who are transferring to TSU from other schools. The IMPACT 2001 schedule:
